Sturgeon Street Road Construction

Port Stephens Council
Raymond Terrace, NSW
Sturgeon Street in Raymond Terrace needed an upgrade to improve road pavement and stormwater drainage while preserving the historical streetscape.

The Challenge

Sturgeon Street in Raymond Terrace required improvements due to deteriorated road pavement and inadequate stormwater drainage. The challenges included managing traffic and pedestrian safety at busy intersections, maintaining access for residents and services, carefully excavating around protected trees, treating sections with acid sulphate materials, and stabilising unsuitable subgrades.

The Solution

The solution involved reinstating 250m of Sturgeon Street, improving pedestrian and motorist safety at key intersections, and upgrading stormwater infrastructure. Works included demolition, bulk earthworks, stormwater upgrades, and concrete works for footpaths and driveways. Landscaping was also done to maintain the area’s historical character. The project received positive feedback and was completed on time.

Scope of Works:

  • Reinstatement of the deteriorated 250m stretch of Sturgeon Street
  • Improvement of safety for pedestrians and motorists at the intersection of Sturgeon St, Jacaranda Ave, and Swan St
  • Site management including subcontractor management, traffic/pedestrian control, and HSEQ management
  • Demolition of existing pavement, kerb, and driveways
  • Bulk earthworks
  • Upgrading stormwater infrastructure including pipework, kerb entry units, lintels, in-situ pits, and subsoils
  • Concrete works including footpaths, medians, kerb and gutter, laybacks, and driveways
  • Landscaping (turf and mulched areas)
